Cornell University Law School has been evacuated because staff and student shelters are in place. The emergency safety warning was issued this afternoon on the campus of Ivy League University in Ithaca, New York.

Around 2:20 pm Eastern Time, Cornell University in New York issued a tweet informing people to evacuate and avoid certain areas of the campus. The tweet read: “Cornell Alert: Evacuate and avoid law school, Godwin Smith, Upson Hall and Kennedy Hall.

Please do not call Cornell unless you have an emergency. police”. A second tweet was subsequently posted, which read: “CornellALERT: Evacuate the Ithaca campus and avoid law school, Godwin Smith, Upson Hall and Kennedy Hall.” A user responded to the university’s tweet, saying: “I heard from a student that there is a bomb threat around Godwin Smith and an active shooter at the law school. I am against Upson or Kennedy. I don’t know.” There is no confirmation report of what is happening.


Update at 5:40 p.m.: The bomb threat at Cornell University was one of three at Ivy League college campuses on Sunday. Columbia and Brown universities also evacuated students after receiving threats of bombs on campus.


New York City Police found the threat at Columbia University was “not credible” so buildings there have been cleared for re-entry.


Police are continuing to investigate the bomb threats tonight at both Cornell University in Ithaca and Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.



Cornell University officials sent an alert at 5:33 p.m., saying police were on the Ithaca campus continuing to investigate the bomb threats and “building sweeps are in progress.” The university asked students and staff to “please continue to avoid central campus.”



Update at 4:06 p.m.: Cornell University sent another alert informing students, staff and community members that police are on campus investigating the bomb threat. Police have set up a perimeter and ask everyone to avoid central campus.



Update at 3:25 p.m.: Police received a call saying bombs were being placed in the law school, Goldwin Smith, Upson Hall and Kennedy Hall, Cornell University said in an updated alert. The buildings are in different areas of the campus.
